Sweet Bird of Youth - Tennessee Williams

Synopsis:  Sweet Bird of Youth is a 1959 play by Tennessee Williams which tells the story of a gigolo and drifter, Chance Wayne, who returns to his home town as the accompaniment of a faded movie star, Princess Kosmonopolis (a.k.a., Alexandra Del Lago), who he hopes to use to help him break into the movies. The main reason he returns to his home town is to get back what he had in his youth; primarily, his old girlfriend, whose father had run him out of town years before.

My take:  The play had me at the start, but I was lost and confused by the end.  The plot is pretty simple, to win back the triumphs of his youth, but he realizes in the end that time passes and you can't go back.  His old girlfriend, Heavenly, is a shell of her former self as Chance left her diseased and broken.  Chance is a great character and is my type, but nothing jumped out to me...however there are some scenes and monologues.

7 out of 10
